Such is the theme of World Environment Day 2007, which is today, June 5th. The topic coincides with the International Polar Year (we won't quibble with the fact that this "year" extends from March 2007 to March 2009, because those ice caps are good for our way of life!), which directs research and public education campaigns toward understanding of the functions of ice and snow in global climate, and the impact of climate change on polar ecosystems and communities.
The main celebrations will be held in Tromso, Norway, and include the release of Ozzy Ozone, Defender of our Planet-- Ozzy Goes Polar through which readers can learn about the ozone layer and its effect on polar ice caps and ecosystems.
