Some folks think that good writing has to stand the test of time. Some think it has to be written in formalized, standard English.
As a descriptive linguistics type, I have to disagree. Sometimes, the lyrical quality of contemporary writing deserves accolades too. Generally, I hate the English major wankery that characterizes music reviews (c.f. David Cross's lampoon for a hilarious critique), and I tend to write music reviews from an emotional, rather than intellectual, place myself. But this review of Alicia Keys new album is both heady and visceral. And for that, it is awesome.
